A Montana woman who was rescued from an avalanche that destroyed her home has now died from her injuries.
Fred Allendorf and his wife Michel Colville were trapped by an avalanche near Missoula, Montana on Friday. Both were eventually rescued after spending hours underneath the snow and taken to a nearby hospital. Sadly on Sunday, Colville died from her injuries. (Via KECI)
Two children were also caught in the avalanche. This 8-year-old boy, Phoenix Scoles, and his sister, were overtaken by the snow. His sister was able to free herself, but rescuers searched frantically for the boy. He was rescued after being trapped for about an hour. (Via KTMF)
Scoles has since been released from the hospital. Allendorf, a retired professor at the University of Montana, is still reportedly in serious condition.
A fund for Colville, who worked as an artist, Allendorf and others affected by the avalanche have been setup through CaringBridge.
"Investigators say a snowboarder in a restricted area triggered the slide. Snow had fallen just about everyday in February with blizzard conditions when the avalanche struck." (Via NBC)
The snowboarder who reportedly caused the avalanche could face criminal charges. Colville was 68 years old.
