The Navy has sealed off Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Virginia in search of a stabbing suspect.

"There was a stabbing in front of the Navy exchange. ... According to Jim Moore, a Navy spokesperson, he said a code white has been issued. Now, what a code white means is it is an active shooter or an armed suspect." (Via WAVY)

CNN reports it happened Friday morning and notes a service member was stabbed, but his or her condition is unknown.

That same spokesperson says it is not a shooting, but a stabbing.

"This is very much an active police scene right now. Pretty much every street you go on around the naval hospital complex has officers on it. Parts of streets are blocked off." (Via WVEC)

According to the naval center's Facebook page, the suspect is a white male who weighs about 165 pounds. He has blond hair and blue eyes and was wearing tan cargo pants and a white shirt.

It was not immediately clear if anyone else was injured in the stabbing. Stay with Newsy for more information as it becomes available.
