On Thursday, Pope Francis and South Korean President Moon Jae-in talked peace on the Korean Peninsula and a possible North Korea trip.
Moon, who is Roman Catholic, visited the pontiff as part of a Europe tour.
During their meeting at the Vatican, the two leaders discussed their commitment to overcoming tensions between North and South Korea.
According to a South Korean spokesman, Moon also conveyed an invitation for the Pope to visit North Korea from the country's leader, Kim Jong-un. The president's office said a formal invite from North Korea will follow.
Earlier this month, the possibility of extending the invitation was reportedly floated after a meeting between Moon and Kim.
The Vatican hasn't publicly commented on whether or not the Pope will make the trip. If he does, it'll be first ever papal visit to North Korea.
