All eyes are on the models when they strut the runways during New York Fashion Week, but they're about to get a bit more privacy behind the scenes.
The first fall/winter 2018 collections hit the runways Thursday. And this season, models will have access to private dressing areas. Until now, models generally had to change clothes in a big open space with photographers, makeup artists and reporters present.
The Model Alliance said in a statement that the privacy areas were added because some models had complained about "invasive photography" and a "lack of privacy."
The group announced the addition after a New York Times report in January detailed a string of sexual misconduct allegations against notable fashion photographers Bruce Weber and Mario Testino.
Leading up to fashion week, Diane von Furstenberg, chairwoman of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, reportedly emphasized to members that creating safe environments is a priority.
