McDonald's Scraps Artificial Preservatives In All Its Classic Burgers

McDonald's U.S. president said the chain has "made significant strides in evolving the quality of our food" in recent years.

McDonald's said Wednesday its classic burgers no longer have artificial preservatives. That's nearly two-thirds of the burgers on its U.S. menu. 

The change affects seven burgers, including the Big Mac and the Quarter Pounder with Cheese.

McDonald's has been taking steps toward revamping its image as a more health-conscious food option since 2014.

Its U.S. president said in a statement the chain has "made significant strides in evolving the quality of our food," including using only fresh beef in quarter-pound burgers and cutting artificial preservatives from Chicken McNuggets.

The change could also be financially positive for the company: McDonald's says its past efforts have led to boosts in burger and Chicken McNugget sales.
