The government will not bring charges against former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe.

McCabe's attorneys revealed Friday that the Justice Department had closed its investigation. McCabe expressed his relief in an interview with CNN:

"To have this horrific black cloud that's been hanging over me and my family for almost the last two years, to have that finally lifted, it's a relief that I'm not sure I can really explain to you adequately."

McCabe, a frequent target of President Donald Trump, was accused of lying to investigators about whether he authorized a leak about an FBI investigation into the Clinton Foundation to journalists. He lost his job because of the accusations in 2018, just a day before he would have been eligible for early retirement pension.

While the Justice Department's investigation is closed, McCabe is still involved in active litigation. He sued the FBI and the Justice Department last August over his firing. He has denied any wrongdoing and alleges he was forced out by political pressure from President Trump.
