Early Sunday morning a tragic highway wreck in Tampa, Fla., killed five people, including four college students. An onlooker captured the wreck on video, we warn you it is graphic.
You can see this white Ford Expedition traveling the wrong way down the highway. The driver then hits a 2010 Hyundai Sonata head on and the SUV burst into flames. (Via Tampa Bay Times)
Everyone in the wreck, including the driver of the SUV, died. The Sonata was carry four men, ages 20 and 21, who were part of the University of South Florida fraternity Sigma Beta Rho. (Via WTLV)
Bay News 9 talked to multiple witnesses. One said, "It was a car going directly at me in the same lane ... It was going straight, it was going fast, all I could think of was the car was on a death mission.”
The driver of the SUV has yet to be identified and police are still investigating whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident. A group of college students gathered near the crash site Sunday evening to hold a vigil. (Via NBC)
Also early Sunday morning all the way on the other side of the country near Los Angeles was another deadly crash that killed six people. Police suspect a 21-year-old drunk driver is responsible.
According to multiple outlets, the driver's name is Olivia Culbreath — she was driving a red Camero which is shown here completely mangled under a red Ford Explorer. Police say they got calls before the crash from drivers reporting reckless driving. (Via WATE)
KTIV reports among the dead — a family of four and two others from a different vehicle. Police say Culbreath was traveling east bound in the west bound lanes.
"Investigators say they found evidence of alcohol consumption in her car. Culbreath was placed under arrest on suspicion of felony drunken driving and felony manslaughter." (Via KABC)
Although the identities of those killed have not been officially released, KCAL talked to Culbreath's family who had some shocking information. (Via Daily Mail)
"Culbreath's brother tells us his other sister Mia was a passenger and is among the dead." Olivia Culbreath is currently in the hospital being treated for a broken femur and ruptured bladder.
In all, 11 people lost their lives in the two incidents.
