Facebook pulled a violent virtual reality game from its stand at the 2018 Conservative Political Action Conference following a wave of criticism.

The company had a demo of a VR shooting game at CPAC less than two weeks after a school shooting in Florida left 17 people dead.

The game reportedly involves players shooting enemies in a train station. People called Facebook's choice to show it "tone deaf."

The company stirred controversy last year when it demoed its VR app by touring a 360-degree video of Hurricane Maria's devastation in Puerto Rico. Some accused Facebook of trying to use the tragedy to sell products.

The vice president of VR at Facebook expressed regret for not getting rid of the shooting game at CPAC sooner.
