Quite the day for Green Day. The '90s punk-rockers got just nominated to be inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame.
Green Day isn't in yet, of course, voters will have to "come around" — get it? — to bring them into the 2015 class officially. Voters include music historians, artists and industry folk, along with fans. (Video via Reprise / Green Day)
This year's nominees feature plenty of rock: Sting, Lou Reed, the Smiths, Nine Inch Nails and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts are also up for consideration.
And then there's roll: Bill Withers, Stevie Ray Vaughan, the band War.
For the full list of nominees you can head to RollingStone.com, where fans can also vote. For the third year, a fan vote will count as one ballot in the process.
The Plain Dealer in Cleveland, where the hall of fame is located, notes this year's nominees stay pretty true to the promise of "rock."
And many outlets spotlit Green Day and Nine Inch Nails in their headlines.
Though, there are exceptions — up again for the third year in a row is N.W.A.. An act can be nominated endless times.
In fact, the only new nominees this year are Green Day and Nine Inch Nails.
