Michael D. Higgins has been inaugurated for his second term as president of Ireland.

He was officially sworn in for another seven years on Sunday during a ceremony at Dublin Castle.

During his inauguration speech, President Higgins thanked members from opposing political parties and those who supported his campaign.

He also called for inclusion, diversity and equality, highlighting the need for global strategy on issues like climate change and poverty.

Higgins was re-elected in October with 56 percent of the vote. According to the Office of the Irish President, that's the largest number of first-preference votes in an Irish presidential election.
