An Egyptian court has sentenced ousted president Hosni Mubarak to three years in prison after finding him guilty of embezzling public funds. His two sons were given four-year terms for the same crime. (Via BBC)
The court ordered Mubarak and his sons fork over about $2.9 million. The Wall Street Journal reports the court accused the Mubarak family of using this public money for renovations to their private homes.
Mubarak and his sons have maintained their innocence and say the funds were misspent without their knowledge.
For Egyptians the sight of Mubarak in a Cairo courtroom is all too familiar. Wednesday's verdict comes after years of legal battles for former leader. (Via RT)
In June 2012, he became the first Arab leader to be tried in his own country. A court sentenced Mubarak to life in prison for failing to prevent the deaths of the protesters who forced him from power. (Via Time)

But Mubarak's legal woes don't end there. He's also on trial for conspiring in the killing of protesters during that 2011 uprising. (Via CNN)
It’s unlikely Mubarak’s latest sentencing will put an end to the political instability that Egypt grown accustomed to. After all, he isn’t the only former president on trial.
His successor, Mohammed Morsi — who was Egypt's first democratically-elected president — faces charges in three separate trials. The charges include murder, espionage and a 2011 prison break. (ViaJewish News One)
The military overthrew Morsi last summer. Egypt will choose its next president in elections next week.
