The head of the U.S. Forest Service has stepped down amid probes into allegations of sexual misconduct against him.
Chief Tony Tooke explained his resignation in an email to employees. He said he admired the courage of the women who came forward and that he fully supports the investigation.
A PBS NewsHour report published March 1 detailed a culture of sexual harassment at the Forest Service. NewsHour's investigation also revealed misconduct allegations against Tooke.
Tooke has worked for the Forest Service for decades. He became the service's leader in September. In his email, Tooke said it's time for him to step down and make way for a new leader. His resignation is effective immediately.
