The deadly crash that killed two people at the SXSW festival Thursday has now claimed the life of a third person.
"Her name is Sandy Le. She lived in Austin. People are already sending condolences to her family online. Her friends spoke with us moments ago and say she was surrounded by family at the hospital when she passed." (Via KVUE)
Le had been in critical condition. More than 20 people were injured in the crash, and some remain in the hospital.
The suspect, 21-year-old Rashad Owens, is now in custody with his bail set at $3 million. Police say he drove into a crowd of people to avoid officers during a traffic stop. His blood-alcohol level was over the legal limit. (Via YNN)
Owens is charged with capital murder. Under Texas law, Owens can be charged with capital murder because he killed two or more people while committing a felony.
The Austin American-Statesman reports witnesses and police say he did not once hit the brakes as he drove into the festival crowd.
Owens will appear before a grand jury next. More charges may be announced then.
