New York State police have arrested and charged the operator of a limousine company involved in a crash that killed 20 people.

Nauman Hussain was arrested and charged with criminally negligent homicide on Wednesday. His father and owner of Prestige Limousine, Shahed Hussain is a former FBI informant who was recruited by federal officials after he was caught trying to obtain fake drivers license documents.

The crash took place Saturday in upstate New York and is the deadliest transportation accident in almost a decade, according to investigators. The driver, two pedestrians and 17 passengers ages 24 to 34, were killed when the driver ran a stop sign and landed in a ravine.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo and state police said the driver did not have the proper license required to operate the limo.

The limo also failed numerous safety inspections, one as recently as Sept. 4. But a lawyer for the company said those issues were corrected, and that police “jumped the gun in charging" his client.

Police say the vehicle should not have been on the road.
