That was Stephanie Edwards, a Kansas City mom, who was surprised Thursday with a new, fully furnished apartment.
According to our partners at KSHB, Edwards lives in Amethyst Place, a nonprofit that provides transitional housing for mothers recovering from drug and alcohol addictions.
Amethyst Place's website says it provides apartments, treatment plans and on-site therapy for all the mothers who live there. Women graduate from the nonprofit once they've remained sober for at least a year and are living in independent housing.
And even better — Edwards will be able to take all her wonderful new furniture, provided by Ikea, with her when she leaves Amethyst Place.
"From where I'm coming from, it's just a complete night and day transformation. ... So it's going to be a smooth transition into something better for my future," Edwards said.
KCTV reports the new furnishings in Edwards' home are part of a $10,000 partnership gift Ikea awarded to the nonprofit in 2014.
