Hundreds more flights were canceled Saturday after a fire at the Chicago-area air traffic control center the day before.
PASSENGER VIA FOX NEWS: "We're not gonna make it there. I'm very disappointed. I wanted to be with my granddaughter and family."
Authorities say they believe the fire was started by an employee while attempting to take his own life.
Some media outlets are naming this employee, while others are not, likely because the case might involve an attempted suicide.
The fire was eventually put out and the employee was taken to the hospital, but because of the incident the Federal Aviation Administration center was evacuated and more than 2,000 flights across the country were canceled.
Over 1,000 of those canceled flights were at Chicago's O'Hare airport, a hub of U.S. travel and a key airport for both United and American Airlines.
The FAA is assessing the damage to the control center and hopes it will be up and running within the next few days.
The employee suspected of starting the fire has been charged with one felony count of destruction of aircraft or aircraft facilities. He could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
