FDA Expected To Propose Major Restrictions On E-Cigarettes

The FDA announcement could come as soon as next week.

The FDA is expected to release major restrictions on e-cigarettes, including banning flavored products in certain stores.

The move comes in direct response to the increase in popularity of e-cigs among teens, a trend some officials are calling an "epidemic."

Reports say the FDA wants to limit the sale of flavored cartridge-based e-cigarette products, like Juul pods, to vape shops — and may propose a complete ban on menthol cigarettes. However, critics say that could make it harder for adults who smoke conventional cigarettes to switch to e-cigs as a cessation tool.

The FDA' s expected proposal has been done before on a smaller level. San Francisco voted to ban all flavored tobacco products, including e-cig liquids, hookah and menthol cigarettes last June.

The FDA is expected to announce its plans officially next week.
