Two people are still missing after a boat capsized several miles off the shore of Lake Michigan in Chicago during the weekend.
WMAQ reports two people, a man and a woman, were pulled from the water Sunday morning — about 12 hours after the boat sank which was reportedly caused by a fire onboard. According to the station, the man was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
As for the woman who was rescued, a local hospital spokesperson has confirmed she was pronounced dead at the hospital.
WGN-TV reports the cold water left the rescued man with hypothermia and the now deceased woman was in cardiac arrest. Authorities believe all the passengers were wearing life jackets when the boat sank.
Another man and woman remain missing as of Sunday. Crews are still searching for the victims with boats and helicopters. WLS-TV adds the radio on the boat wasn't working, so passengers weren't able to let authorities know the boat was sinking.
In fact, it was a fisherman who says he noticed the first victim in the water just after 6 a.m. Sunday.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports authorities with the U.S. Coast Guard, Chicago Fire Department and Chicago Police Marine Unit are working to find the other missing boaters.
The search is being conducted six miles off the shore in Chicago. According to several reports, the water temperature in Lake Michigan is only in the 50s.
