Facebook has responded to reports that the company collects users' call and text histories without their permission.
In a statement released Sunday, the social media giant said, "This is not the case."
Facebook said the call and text history logging is an opt-in feature found on the Messenger and Facebook Lite for Android apps. It's that box that pops up when setting up the app that says "Text anyone in your phone."
Users can turn this option off at any time.
Facebook said the information "is securely stored" and not sold to third parties.
This response comes amid increased scrutiny after the Cambridge Analytica scandal.
