For the second year in a row, the life expectancy in the United States dropped.

According to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, life expectancy for the U.S. population in 2016 was 78.6 years — that's a decrease from 78.7 years in 2015.

For men, life expectancy decreased from 76.3 years in 2015 to 76.1 years in 2016. For women, life expectancy remained the same at 81.1 years.

The report also found that age-specific death rates between 2015 and 2016 increased for younger age groups. For those between the ages of 15 and 24, it increased 7.8 percent; and for those between the ages of 25 and 34, it increased 10.5 percent. Death rates for those 65 years or older decreased.
