White House chief of staff John Kelly isn't going anywhere, according to the White House.
A deputy press secretary told reporters Thursday that President Donald Trump called speculation of Kelly's departure "fake news." But media outlets have reported that Trump is actively mulling options to replace Kelly, including Director of the Office of Management and Budget Mick Mulvaney and Vice President Mike Pence aide Nick Ayers. And according to The Wall Street Journal, Kelly could leave his post as soon as this summer.
This isn't the first time the Trump administration has rejected reports about Kelly's potential exit amid rumors of a tense relationship with Trump. In February, Kelly denied that he'd offered up his resignation.
Earlier this year, the White House also shot down speculation that former national security adviser H.R. McMaster was out — shortly before he left the position.
