Tina Turner dead at age 83

Her cause of death was not immediately revealed.

Music icon Tina Turner has died. 

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner," a post on her official Facebook page says. "With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow."

Turner's manager said the singer died after a long battle with an illness at her home near Zurich, Switzerland.

Turner, born Anna Mae Bullock, rose to prominence in the 1960s. She was the lead singer of the duo Ike & Tina Turner.

They had hits like "Proud Mary," "Nutbush City Limits," and "River Deep, Mountain High."

Known for her energetic performances and big hair, Turner captivated audiences across the world. 

Despite major success in the entertainment industry, Turner faced numerous personal challenges. She endured an abusive relationship with Ike Turner and decided to leave him and embark on a solo career in the 1980s.

Her 1984 album "Private Dancer" was a massive hit. It included Turner's biggest single, "What's Love Got to Do With It." The album would go on to win four Grammy awards. 

Turner's music influence was felt across the entertainment industry. Her life story was made into the movie, "What's Love Got To Do With It." Her story was also brought to life on Broadway in "Tina — The Tina Turner Musical."

Turner was 83 years old at the time of her death.
