Grievances continue to pile up against Kevin Roper, the man charged with crashing an 18-wheeler into Tracy Morgan's limo, seriously injuring the comedian and killing one of Morgan's good friends.
"Today the NTSB released a preliminary report that found the truck driver charged in the crash was going 20 miles over the speed limit."
The National Transportation Safety Board says the area was a work zone, so the speed limit would usually be 55 miles per hour but was knocked down to 45 because of construction.
The report also details just how long Roper had been behind the wheel before the crash. According to the NTSB, Roper had been working for 13 1/2 hours, spending nine of those behind the wheel before hitting Morgan's van.
This revelation from the NTSB adds to the already mounting criticism of Roper. Police say at the time of the crash, Roper had been awake for more than 24 hours.
"The NTSB is investigating Roper's strenuous commute. They say he lives in Georgia but works in Delaware. The accident happened in New Jersey."
Roper has been charged with death by auto and four counts of assault by auto. He faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted but has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Comedian James McNair, who was a mentor for Morgan, died in the crash. Morgan suffered several serious injuries and is expected to be hospitalized for weeks.
