You're seeing these headlines — more "Twilight" movies! But don't be fooled. It's not more of the same — no RPatz or KStew in these new flicks.
If you could still love Edward and Bella without them, though, get excited.
The New York Times reports Lionsgate is financing five new short films based on the beloved book and movie series, and it's doing it in a very "forging-new-roads-for-Hollywood" kind of way.
Through Facebook — a site we're guessing Edward never had a presence on.
Hollywood's been involved with Facebook for years with mixed results. Using it as a platform to premiere and distribute whole movies? That's new.
The movies will be distributed on Facebook, and get this: In a partnership with the organization Women in Film, directors will be chosen by a panel of women and must be female.
That panel includes ... Kristen Stewart! And Kate Winslet, "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer, Julie Bowen, Octavia Spencer and more — not a bad lineup.
But why do this two years after the final "Twilight" installment hit theaters? Sounds like Lionsgate, understandably, wants its cash cow to be immortal.
The Times quotes the company's Vice Chairman Michael Burns: "We think Facebook is a great way for us to introduce the world of 'Twilight' to a whole new audience while re-energizing existing fans."
Now, Mr. Burns did get very tricky and hint at something "coming next." So, are these short films just buzz-builders? Will there be another full-length "Twilight" movie? Well ...
