We still have two years before the superhero showdown "Batman v. Superman" hits theaters. So there's no reason to get too worked up over any new details or images just yet.
Yeah, right. The film's official Twitter account gave the world its first look at the Man of Steel from the upcoming film "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice." Ironically, there is little "dawn" to be had here.
The Superman image does fall in line with the Batman photo director Zack Snyder tweeted two months ago. Just like Batman in Snyder's black-and-white shot, the Toronto Star says Superman looks sad, jokingly calling the film "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Depression."
Most other sources, such as ScreenCrush, don't focus on the negative, though, saying instead, "He looks pretty much like the same Superman from 'Man of Steel.'"
But MTV is a little confused about one thing: "Still too cool for outside underpants, Henry? For shame."
Still, there is something new about this image.
IGN took a closer look, asking, "What's that city in the background?" It points out smoke stacks and a darkened sky, saying, "Surely it's also our first glimpse of Synder's Gotham."
That's entirely possible. IGN says the Metropolis in "Man of Steel" was much cleaner, although it did kind of get destroyed by the end. (Via Warner Bros. / “Man of Steel”)
Even if that rough city is Gotham, don't expect "Dawn of Justice" to be Batman-heavy. It is still considered a sequel to "Man of Steel."
Also, in an interview with USA Today, Snyder said: "I was in no rush to put Batman in the movie. But on the other hand it seemed organic the way our story was unfolding to start to feather him in."
The hesitation is warranted, considering the commercial and critical success of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy. (Via Warner Bros. / "The Dark Knight Rises")
But it's not just a two-hero show. Israeli model Gal Gadot is set to play Wonder Woman in the film. (Via Flickr / isRealli)
So give it about two months and we might get our first moody look at Wonder Woman, too. If not, the film is slated for a May 2016 release.
