Whether he's saying he'll take folks to Mars or he's opening a gigafactory in Nevada, Tesla CEO Elon Musk tends to make headlines.
So it's no surprise the Internet was alight after Musk tweeted this cryptic message Wednesday night: "About time to unveil the D and something else" along with this picture and the date for a potential Tesla reveal.
It was whether Musk was talking about a new car named the "Model D." That's why the Internet was buzzing in a mature, adult-like manner. No other reason.
So what is the "D"? A writer at Business Insider puts his money on an all-wheel-drive version of the Model S but jokes a SpaceX Mars Rover or diesel hybrid could also be on the table.
The Wall Street Journal says a "Model D" car is unlikely, citing a September interview where Musk told the paper he isn't currently working on any other vehicles aside from the Model S and recently announced Model X.
And yet a writer for CNET thinks a new model is still in the realm of possibility, especially since Musk had previously mentioned making a smaller sedan version of its upcoming Model 3 sedan.
Whatever the announcement is, Musk appears to be able to control the stock exchange by simply speaking. Tesla shares jumped more than 4 percent the day after his tweet.
That's like in September when he said, "I think our stick price is kind of high right now to be totally honest" and Tesla's stock suddenly fell by more than 6 percent.
Unfortunately, as is the case with the Internet, not everyone was mature about Musk's tweet. Reactions on Twitter prompted the CEO to eventually respond saying he loved the Internet and "No, it wasn't intentional. Glad I didn't mention the other letter!"
This, coming from a guy who joked Ford was "killing sex" because it blocked Tesla from copyrighting the Model E to go along with the electric car company's Models S and X.
We'll leave you to guess what Musk meant by "the other letter."
