New video released by police in Charlottesville, Virginia reportedly shows missing college student Hannah Graham being followed by a man on the the night she disappeared.
Police say this video, taken early Saturday on a restaurant's surveillance camera, shows Graham, a student at the University of Virginia, walking past a white male who then turns around and follows her from a short distance.
WTVR reports the man in the video has come forward and said he already gave his story to a tip line. He told authorities he was following Graham because she appeared distressed and wanted to make sure she got home safely.
He said he then saw a black male approach Graham. He says Graham appeared to know the man and he seemed to be trying to help her.
Police have pieced together a timeline of Graham's night that has her leaving a friend's apartment shortly before midnight. She was spotted on several cameras in the downtown area before sending a text to a friend at 1:20 a.m. saying she was heading to a party but was lost.
The police are pleading with the public for more clues.
"I'd be very disturbed that someone on this Downtown Mall did not see this young lady and did not yet call the police to report it."
Investigators say there is no evidence as of yet to suggest there was foul play in her disappearance, but that's of little comfort to her family. CNN quotes a statement: "Hannah is beyond precious to us. We are truly devastated by her disappearance. It's totally out of character for us not to have heard from her, and we fear foul play."
Graham's disappearance has been compared to another case in the area back in 2009 when 20-year-old Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington went missing after leaving a concert.
Her remains were found three months later on a nearby farm. No one was ever charged in her death. Authorities say they have no reason to suspect her disappearance is connected to Graham's.
Graham was first reported missing by friends on Sunday.
