As we were scanning the news headlines this week, we noticed that a lot of stories were just plain silly. I mean, animals jumping on beds? And what about that entire town that’s currently on the market? Yeah, we’re talking seriously ridiculous stories here, people.

First up, we’ve got that abandoned Connecticut town that was put up for auction. People reported the starting bid was $800,000 for the 62 acres.

A blogger pointed out the town of Johnsonville has “been vacant for more than 20 years and through its history, has been abandoned not once, not twice, but three times.”

CBS: “Despite the chipped paint, rusting metal and sagging roofs, bids came pouring in.”

OK, so the town definitely needs some TLC. But it also features Victorian-esque houses, a general store and even a chapel.

As a writer for Gothamist says, the starting bid for the town was still less than the cost of an apartment in Brooklyn, New York.

But remember, CBS reported bids. As in multiple. So what did the town sell for?

Oh, just a measly $1.9 million. The Middletown Press reports the sale will be finalized by the end of November. No word yet on what the new owner will do with the town.

That is quite the bid for a ghost town. If we had almost $2 million lying around, we’re not sure we’d spend it on a whole bunch of fixer-uppers. But hey, to each their own, right?

Next up, a furniture store in Cedar Falls, Iowa, got an unexpected guest.

AMY ROBACH FOR ABC: “This deer broke into a furniture store in Iowa and couldn’t resist itself. Look at that, hop, hop, hop. Went right for the mattress section. Jumping from bed to bed.”

KWWL: “He even politely let himself out the back door, using his antler to open it. Despite the deer’s speed and power, that area had minimal damage and ultimately no one was hurt.”

We just want to know one thing: does this now make jumping on the bed more acceptable? Because we’re totally down if it is.

Finally, we’re talking pumpkins. No, not those ones you usually find at the pumpkin patch.

ROBIN MEADE FOR HLN: “The largest weighs more than 1,700 pounds. Glen and and Margaret Martin of Combined Locks, Wisconsin grew these.”

The Martins try to outdo themselves every year when it comes to the size of their pumpkins. This year, the biggest weighs approximately 1,750 pounds.

MARGARET MARTIN VIA WLUK: “Before that, our biggest pumpkin was 1,476 pounds. So we just jumped ahead a couple hundred pounds, which is awesome.”

What’s even crazier is that that pumpkin isn’t even the biggest in the world.

According to Guinness World Records, the heaviest pumpkin so far this year weighs 2,323 pounds.

What do you even carve a pumpkin that big into? Cinderella’s carriage?
