International travelers at Orlando International Airport in Florida will reportedly be subject to facial scans soon.

The Associated Press reports the scans will apply to people arriving at and departing from the airport on international flights. A spokesperson for U.S. Customs and Border Protection told the outlet U.S. citizens can opt out if they want.

number of airports already use facial scans for certain international departures. Those scans are reportedly compared to a Department of Homeland Security database to confirm a person's identity.

But a 2017 report from the Georgetown Law Center on Privacy and Technology found that those scans might violate U.S. law. The report also says the software makes frequent mistakes.

And an expert from the law center told the AP that research suggests the face scans are less accurate for minorities, women and children.
