The Pentagon has opened an investigation into Rear Adm. Ronny Jackson, President Donald Trump's former physician and nominee for secretary of veterans affairs.
The Pentagon's inspector general will look at misconduct claims against Jackson. Those include allegations he promoted a hostile work environment, drank on the job and overprescribed medication.
Trump nominated him to lead the Veterans Affairs Department before the White House performed its typical Cabinet vetting process. Jackson withdrew himself from consideration at the end of April after the allegations surfaced, though he denies any wrongdoing.
The inspector general has the authority to conduct both criminal and administrative investigations. The Pentagon hasn't clarified what category Jackson's investigation falls under.
Jackson is still on the White House's medical staff, but he's no longer Trump's personal doctor.
