A massive pileup in Pennsylvania prompted multiple accidents involving more than 100 cars on Friday.

Media outlets describe the chaotic scene stretched on for miles on the Turnpike in Bensalem. Officials report more than a dozen people were injured and hundreds stranded. (Via KYW-TV)

“At least three separate pileups … all involving tractor trailers. Again, tractor trailers possibly going 45 miles per hour around that bend.” (Via WTXF)

“You can see just how many crashed cars are involved in this accident. This is a separate accident from the one that happened a little ways farther East.” (Via WCAU)

WCAU reports the first wreck reportedly happened at about 8 a.m. and included 10 cars and five tractor-trailers. It took more than an hour for emergency crews to reach the various scenes because traffic was stopped eastbound and slowed on westbound lanes.

When it comes to what caused the recent accident, police say it appears to be weather-related. WPVI reports so far at least 11 people have been taken to the hospital.
