Florida Gov. Rick Scott asked the state's Department of Law Enforcement to investigate how authorities responded to the deadly school shooting in Parkland on Feb. 14.

The announcement of the investigation came after Florida House Speaker Richard Corcoran and dozens of other GOP lawmakers urged Scott to suspend Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel.

In a letter sent to the governor, lawmakers cited training of deputies and law enforcement inaction. The sheriffhas acknowledged his department responded to more than 20 incidents involving the eventual suspected shooter, but says none involved "arrestable offenses."

Scott didn't respond publicly to calls for Israel's suspension, but the sheriff previously said he won't resign.

Israel's office released a statement Sunday saying it "will fully cooperate with FDLE, as we believe in full transparency and accountability."
