The National Rifle Association gave the chairman of the FFC, Ajit Pai, its Charlton Heston Courage Under Fire Award on Friday.

Pai was preparing to speak at the Conservative Political Action Conference when he was surprised with the award.

The award is meant to commemorate someone who has "stood up under pressure." Pai received the award for repealing net neutrality rules and standing up to "countless death threats." One event organizer said he "saved the internet."

Pai joins a group of conservative award winners including Rush Limbaugh, Phyllis Schlafly, Vice President Mike Pence and Sheriff David Clarke.
