Teachers in Arizona are getting a 20 percent pay increase over the next two years.

Gov. Doug Ducey told reporters Thursday he's upping his former proposed raise of 1 percent to 9 percent.

Teachers in Arizona have been protesting for more school funding and higher wages. If their requests weren't met, Ducey was likely facing a walkout.

Teachers in Arizona are some of the lowest paid in the country, according to The Washington Post.
