2015 may be the hottest year ever recorded.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says September was the fifth-straight month in 2015 to set a record high temperature. It ranked .12 degrees higher than the previous record set in 2014.
In fact, so far this year, January and April were the only two months that didn't break record highs, although they both still placed in the top three.
NOAA says that the only thing that could keep 2015 from being the hottest year on record would be an extreme cold snap later this year.
But that's unlikely, especially with a stronger-than-normal El Nino. This year's event, which occurs when vast quantities of ocean heat are transferred to the atmosphere, is expected to be the second strongest on record. (Video via CBS)
The current hottest year on record? 2014. So cheers to us for back-to-back years of record-breaking heat — if that's anything to celebrate.
