Former Major League Baseball slugger Jose Canseco has reportedly undergone surgery after he accidentally shot himself in the hand while cleaning a gun at his Las Vegas home.

KLAS: "Sources say Canseco was sitting at a kitchen table cleaning a .45 caliber handgun. The handgun went off, hitting Canseco in his left hand. Sources say there was blood all over the kitchen and the wall."

KTNV: "In an off-camera with his fiancé, she says she was in the kitchen when she heard the gun go off and was stunned to find he had blown off most of his left middle finger."

Canseco's fiancée also told KTNV he "visited the gun range last week and forgot there was still a bullet left in the gun."

According to the Los Angeles Times, the woman also said doctors believe, "[The finger] will either have to be amputated or have full reconstruction surgery," and the former home run king "will never have full use of his hand again."

Canseco's fiancée tweeted out her thanks for all the prayers and support late Tuesday night while the former six-time MLB all-star was under the knife.

Canseco's career spanned 17 seasons. He's probably best known for his time with Oakland A's. He was a former MVP and is a part of baseball's coveted 400 Home Run Club with 462 career homers.

The four-time Silver Slugger made headlines in 2005 when he fessed up to using performance enhancing drugs during baseball's steroid era — causing plenty of bad blood with other players by allegedly outing several other them in the process. He spent much of his post-playing days trying to clean up the sport.
