Hours after news dropped that Democrats have taken control of the House, Republican Rep. Jim Jordan announced he would challenge Rep. Kevin McCarthy for House minority leader.
Jordan made the announcement in an interview with The Hill on Wednesday.
He said now that Republicans are the minority, all they can do is debate and show the American people that they deserve to be back in power in 2020.
Jordan easily won re-election in Ohio's 4th congressional district race against Democrat Janet Garrett on Tuesday.
Jordan previously announced his bid for House Speaker after Paul Ryan said he wasn't seeking re-election back in April.
House Republicans will reportedly vote on new leadership Nov. 14, and Democrats are set to vote the week after Thanksgiving. Both parties will then put their nominees up for a vote once the new Congress convenes in January. Since Democrats control the lower chamber, their nominee will likely win the vote for House Speaker.
