Former Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos is seeking immunity in exchange for his testimony before the Senate intelligence committee, according to multiple outlets.
But Papadopoulos testified for hours for House lawmakers Thursday without an immunity agreement, which may have hurt his chances to get one with the Senate.
If Papadopoulos doesn't agree to testify voluntarily, the committee can always subpoena him.
Papadopolous pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI last year as part of special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation. He was sentenced to two weeks in prison, which he hasn't served yet.
Papadopoulous told Fox News on Friday he was considering withdrawing from his plea deal because he was "set up" by the government.
But it's not clear if he can do that. Legal experts havecalled backing out of a plea deal "extraordinarily difficult" and "virtually impossible."
