A California judge extended Chris Brown’s stay in rehab after new legal documents shed light on the troubled singer's mental health issues.

“Chris Brown is looking at another two months in rehab. Yesterday a judge ordered the singer to stay in treatment until his assault charge is tried. Once that happens the judge will decide if Brown should serve jail time for violating his probation.” (Via HLN)

TMZ reports documents from the rehab facility explain why Brown has been so violent. “Mr. Brown became aggressive and acted out physically due to his untreated mental health disorder, severe sleep deprivation, inappropriate self-medicating and untreated PTSD.”

The mental health disorder the documents reference is bipolar disorder and it's unknown what exactly casued the PTSD. E! reports despite Brown getting a good report on his progress so far, the judge still ordered the extension.

The report also mentions Brown has tested negative for drugs during his stay so far and states jail time may not be the answer for him. (Via RCA Records / Chris Brown)

After the ruling, Brown sent this tweet saying, “Never really goes the way u plan. #LIFE” (Via Twitter / @chrisbrown)

The singer is expected back in court April 28.
