Lea Michele has finally confirmed a rumor long thought to be true.
In her new memoir/advice book, "Brunette Ambition," the star reveals this "Glee" gossip:
"I had worked on Broadway with Jenna Ushkowitz and Matthew Morrison before ['Glee']. Matt had been a friend of mine for years, and in fact we'd actually dated back in the day for a Broadway beat."
Did you catch that, Gleeks? Rachel Berry and Mr. Schu were totally once an item. But it's not as creepy as it sounds — there's only an eight-year age difference between the two in real life. (Via Fox / "Glee")
Still, the New York Daily News calls the revelation "notable since she and Morrison had been rumored to be dating early in the show's run. But both had denied the rumors, citing their friendship that preceded their hit show."
Yes, Hollywood.com quoted the star in 2010 as saying:
"He's been a friend of mine from New York. People are going to make things up. I think it's just because we really are so close."
That same year, Morrison called the rumors "laughable" in Parade.
But Entertainment Weekly defends those previous denials.
"A 'Broadway beat' doesn't sound very long — the 'relationship' seems more 'we made out at a party once' than 'this is my boyfriend.' Still, it's funny to hear Michele cop to a quick romance now."
Of course, the fact that Michele very publicly dated late co-star Cory Monteith probably played a factor in keeping any relationship with Morrison under wraps, too. (Via Flickr / vagueonthehow, Flickr / vagueonthehow)
Michele's book — where she's sure to spill more secrets — is out now.
