President Donald Trump is weighing in on the American Cable Association's call for an investigation into Comcast.

Trump said on Twitter Monday that the ACA, which represents hundreds of smaller cable companies, "has big problems with Comcast. They say that Comcast routinely violates Antitrust Laws."

The ACA said in a statement Monday it asked the Department of Justice to open an investigation into Comcast and NBC Universal's business practices.

It says the investigation should focus "on harms stemming from the dominant communications firm's control of cable systems, TV stations, and regional sports networks ... concentrated in some of the largest local markets in the country."

Comcast acquired NBCU in 2011. This year, terms of that deal that limited how Comcast-NBCU could raise programming prices expired. The ACA says Comcast now has too much power.

The ACA also says Comcast refused to offer standalone broadband internet service "as the FCC condition required."

Comcast says the ACA's letter is "meritless."
