President Donald Trump says he is not planning on meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin this weekend as previously announced.
He said instead, he plans to speak with Putin at the G-20 summitat the end of this month. There was confusion over whether the two were going to meet while they're both in France this weekend. They'll be there for a ceremony commemorating the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.
National security adviser John Bolton said last month that Trump and Putin would meet during the France trip. And while Putin also maintained there would be a meeting, Trump didn't seem so committed.
He previously hinted they would not meet, and at a press conference on Wednesday he confirmed it. But speaking about G-20, which begins Nov. 30, he said, "That's where we're actually looking forward to meet."
That would mark the first time they've gotten together since they met in Helsinki.
That meeting faced bipartisan backlash after Trump accepted Putin's claim that Russia didn't interfere in the 2016 election, despite the U.S. intelligence community's consensus that it did. Trump later walked back his remark.
