Tear gas canisters were set off in Kosovo's parliament to prevent a vote on a border agreement with Montenegro.
An opposition party member set off the gas. That party argues the deal gives away about 20,000 acres of Kosovo's territory. But international experts have denied that claim.
Some say passing this border agreement could be a key step in allowing Kosovo citizens to travel through the European Union without a visa. In the long term, it may also improve Kosovo's chances to eventually join the EU.
After the smoke cleared, lawmakers returned to the chamber. Parliament members then voted to ratify the border deal.
