Rosie O'Donnell To Rejoin 'The View,' Hasselbeck Not Happy

The View announced on Twitter Thrusday O'Donnell will be returning to the show as a host for its 18th season.

ABC has finally confirmed former host Rosie O'Donnell will rejoin the hit morning show "The View." (Via Getty Images)

After much speculation, "The View" tweeted Thursday, "It's official! ABC confirms Rosie O'Donnell returns as co-host of #TheView w/ moderator Whoopi Goldberg for Season 18."

O'Donnell was a host in 2006 and 2007, and was known for her altercations with conservative co-host Elizabeth  Hasselbeck. (Via ABC)

Hasselbeck actually created a quite a stir when she commented earier this week about the possibility of O'Donnell joining the show. 

Hasselbeck: "What could ruin a vacation more than to hear news like this. ... I think this has been in the works for a long time." (Via Fox News)

 The View's cast has been a "hot topic" recently, since there are a lot of vacancies for next season. Show creator Barbara Walters retired in May, then Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy announced they would not be coming back for another season just last week. (Via ABC)

In a statement obtained by The Huffington Post, ABC seemed to imply Shepherd and McCarthy's departures were involuntary, saying "ABC has made decisions to evolve the show creatively." 

While TMZ outright said the hosts were fired. 

ABC has not yet released who else will be joining Goldberg and O'Donnell as hosts next season. Some speculate Meghan McCain might be a possibility for one of the spots.
