New Jersey could be headed for a second state government shutdown in as many years.
The possible shutdown comes as the state's top Democrats clash with each other and Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy over Murphy's budget proposal. The governor has asked the legislature to raise taxes on millionaires, but some Democrats in the legislature think taxes on the wealthy are already too high in the state.
The tax hike would, in part, help pay for some of Murphy's campaign promises like universal prekindergarten and free community college.
Lawmakers and the governor have until Saturday at midnight to avoid a partial government shutdown. If they can't, parks and beaches could close, and non-essential government employees could be furloughed.
