New details are emerging about the woman who police say killed four Indian tribal members in northern California Thursday.
According to authorities, this woman, Cherie Lash Rhoades, allegedly shot and killed four people, injuring another. After running out of bullets, police say she grabbed a knife and wounded at least one other woman. (Via KLAS)
"Officers say Rhoades was the former chairwoman of the Cedarville Rancheria tribe...and was being investigated for stealing at least $50,000. Police say she was at the meeting, facing eviction." (Via KGET)
Guardian Liberty Voice writes being evicted from a community is one of the harshest penalties that can be imposed on Native Americans.
Investigators say three of the deceased were related to Rhodes. The fourth was a tribal administrator in charge of evictions.
"Tribal Chair, 50-year-old Rurik Davis, was Lash's brother. Her niece and nephew, 19-year-old Angel Penn and 30-year-old Glenn Calonicco. 47-year-old Sheila Russo, a member of that community." (Via KRCR)
One woman who witnessed the rampage was able to escape to the local city hall and get help. Police say Rhoades was apprehended by authorities shortly after the shooting, with the butcher's knife still in her hand. (Via KHSL)
The two injured in the rampage are expected to recover.
