Well, records are meant to be broken — even 55-year-old records that have only been accomplished once before in NBA history. Russell Westbrook has 42 triple-doubles this season, officially breaking Oscar Robertson's record from 1962.

As if to put an exclamation point on the historic feat, he also scored 50 points on the night and capped off the game with a buzzer-beater to knock the Denver Nuggets out of playoff contention.

A triple-double is when a player manages double-digit numbers in three statistical categories in one game. Most often, it's points, rebounds and assists. Usually, NBA fans can expect one triple-double every 36 games or so.

But this season, Westbrook has accomplished what many thought may never happen again: an NBA player averaging a triple-double throughout an 82-game NBA season.

No player has averaged a triple-double for an entire season since Robertson.

While congratulating Westbrook on the record, LeBron James said, "There's just certain things you never think you're going to see or never think is going to be broken, and that's one of those records, man."

Westbrook has seen congratulatory tweets and messages from all across the league since his game Sunday, with many NBA players joining in on the calls for him to be named MVP.

When asked about the historic season, Westbrook called it all a "blessing."

"Y'all are probably going to get tired of me saying the same thing, but I promise you I've been blessed with so many things. ... I'm so thankful to be doing the things I'm doing," he said.
