Both players and officials immediately rushed to Peverley's aid after he collapsed. According to Yahoo, several trainers carried him to the back, and both teams nervously waited on the ice for several minutes before returning to their locker rooms.

Fortunately, though, Peverley is reportedly doing okay. The Stars announced via Twitter that he was taken to a nearby hospital and was successfully treated for a "cardiac event," and he even apparently asked to get back in the game when he regained consciousness. (Via Twitter / @DallasStars)

But the NHL said in a statement it still decided to postpone the matchup between the Stars and the Blue Jackets until further notice because of the "emotional state of the players on both teams caused by the medical emergency."

Peverley had been dealing with some heart problems before the season even began.

The Stars' GM told The Dallas Morning News back in September that Peverley had a procedure to correct an irregular heartbeat. "The medical staff did a great job, they recognized this. They picked it up on the EKG, and he’s going to be fine.”

But the heart issue apparently resurfaced last week. According to Deadspin, Peverely sat out last Tuesday's game in Columbus because he was feeling strange. He returned to the lineup two days later.

Stars team doctors say it's too early to tell what the long-term outlook for Peverley is, but he'll be closely monitored for the next few days to determine the cause and a treatment plan.
