YouTube will restrict the amount of time its human moderators spend watching disturbing videos.
Speaking at South by Southwest, CEO Susan Wojcickisaid the moderators will be limited to four hours per day of monitoring inappropriate content. The changes will also include access to "wellness benefits," as the company's contractors currently can't take advantage of full-time health perks.
Calling it a "real issue" and "really hard," Wojcicki said she recently spent time looking at the content herself. Employees at other tech companies have reported the negative impacts of viewing such material.
Last year, YouTube announced it would increase the number of staff who review the site for offensive posts and videos to more than 10,000 people in 2018.
