Uber is adding electric scooters to its transportation options.
The ride-sharing company is investing in startup Lime, joining forces to make scooter rentals available in the Uber app.
Lime lets riders pick up and use dock-free scooters and is available in major and mid-size cities across the U.S. and Europe. Uber's VP told media outlets that was part of the attraction to Lime, as Uber aims to become a "one-stop-shop" for users' transportation needs.
The partnership and investment moves come after Lyft announced last week that it had purchased a bike-sharing company. In April, Uber also acquired electric bike company Jump Bikes to create Uber Bike, which has already rolled out in some U.S. markets.
